Imphal, October 06 2021:
Youth's Forum for the Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) has informed that the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has directed the state's chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar to conduct an inquiry against Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) chairperson Meinam Binota in response to Forum's demand for her removal from the post of chairperson.
In a release, YFPHR president Kh Pha-jaton stated that on July 7, YFPHR along with 12 organisations submitted a complaint to the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development mentioning that the Governor and the chief minister have failed to remove M Binota from the post of MSCW chairperson, even after they had submitted a written complaint on December 3, 2019.On September 15, responding to complaints the Union Ministry had communicated to the chief secretary and also to the National Commission for Women member secretary, to examine the case against Meinam Binota and take necessary action, it added.
YFPHR decried that it has been more than 21 days since the Union Ministry communicated with the chief secretary, but no positive action has been taken up by him so far.
The inaction by the chief secretary is an act of supporting the illegal acts committed by M Binota, who misused powers and functions of the MSCW, it alleged.
YFPHR therefore, requested the chief secretary to remove M Binota from the post of MSCW chairperson, as per the Section 4(3) of the Manipur State Commission for.
Women Act, 2006 in the best interest of the people and women societies.
