Imphal, May 02 2015 :
Threatened Indigenous People's Society (TIPS), Manipur has on Saturday said the society is upset over the unwanted skirmish between villagers of Thwai Khul and Gwaltabi under Yaingangpokpi Police Station in Imphal East on April 30 last.
Condemning the alleged mob violence, TIPS urged the State Government to give compensation for the loss of properties following the skirmish.
It stated that all communities in Manipur must condemn the incident and appealed to all that any move by Thawai Khul must not be considered as the final decision of the whole Tangkhul community.
A statement by Manipur Peace & Integrity (MAPI) Council alleged that the Gwaltabi incident had occurred as the State Government failed to look into the issue on time.
It said failure on the part of the Manipur Government to release MGNRES fund and the subsequent 48-hour strike imposed by All Tribal Chiefs' Forum Manipur immediately after the United Naga Council (UNC) sponsored 48-hour total strike were the alleged contributing factors for the tension.
Kangleipak Lamjing Apunba Meiralup (Kanglamei) also expressed unhappiness over the Gwaltabi violent incident.
Kanglamei in a statement described the incident as 'unfortunate' and appealed to the residents of both the villages to avoid recurrence of such unwanted incidents in future.
It further urged the State Government to take necessary action to resolve the stalemate.
In a separate statement Birmangol College Students' Union also appealed to the Manipur Government to bring a quick amicable solution to the standoff between the villages of Thwai Khul and Gwaltabi.
