Imphal, May 08 2021:
Though the government had declared curfew in seven districts to restrict public gathering and normal activities in a bid to break the transmission chain of Covid-19, a significant section of the public is still violating the prohibitory orders making the police become weary in enforcing the curbs.
Despite the restrictions, many people are still coming out to the streets for no valid reason, gathering for feasts and gambling while local lottery or tenders are also continuing in many parts of the state.
Though police have been doing their best to restrict public movement, pub-lic indulging in such reckless activities is endangering the entire state and its population while rendering the initiative of the government to break the transmission chain almost useless.
Speaking in this regard to The People's Chronicle, SP Thoubal Dr S Ibomcha reminded all concerned that the measures taken up by the government are for protecting the public and the state from the pandemic.
Police are enforcing the restrictions for public safety.
Unless the public cooperate with the government and the police, the pandemic will hit hard and the state will suffer severely, he cautioned.
Further conveying that all the police personnel too have their own families and they are coming out to work leaving behind the comfort of their home and compromising the safety of their families to enforce the restrictions imposed by the government just to make sure that the state suffer the least from the pandemic, Dr Ibomcha said police personnel under his jurisdiction are carrying out awareness activities through public announcement on streets and localities while making appeal to the public to stay home.
Any persons violating the restrictions will be dealt with strictly as per rule of law, he said while urging all to cooperate with the government and police in the fight against the pandemic.
Meanwhile, during a brief field survey, TPC found almost all the shops in localities and streets functioning normally though shops and other business establishments alongside main roads remained closed.
Public gathering without any care for SOP could also be observed in some places which prompted the necessity for strict and immediate measures to check such violations of SOP in every locality.
