Villagers round up auto lifter-brothers

Residents of Ngairangbam Leikai in Manipur's Imphal West district helped police to nab two brothers who were attempting to sell out a stolen diesel autorickshaw last
night.
Briefing the media at his office on Wednesday, Officer-in-charge of Patsoi Police Station, Inspector Basanta said two brothers named Md Abdul Lalit aged 35 and Md Abdul Zia aged 27, sons of Md Abdul Ali, residents of Sangaiyumpham Mathak Leikai in Thoubal district have been remanded in police custody for seven days after producing in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West yesterday.
The two crooks have been charged with vehicle theft, he said.
They were trying to sell out a stolen diesel autorickshaw at Ngairakpam Awang Leikai last night.
Some residents of Ngairakpam Awang Leikai alerted the Patsoi Police after they found the original registration number of the autorickshaw being modified with a new number, the OC said.
The duo was reportedly loitering around the locality with the stolen vehicle asking the residents to buy it since the early morning.
After that, the police arrested the duo from the same locality around 2:45 pm yesterday, he added.
