Imphal, December 15 2013:
With a vision to bring about a qualitative change in the local television programming and delivery of information services to the masses, The Impact Medianet & Communication (P) Ltd incorporated under the Companies Act, is all set to launch "The Impact Cable TV Network, a brand new cable TV network in Manipur soon.
With the compulsory digitization of the cable TV signals and notification of Digital Addressable System (DAS) across the nation beginning October 31, 2012, a new dawn has come in the field of cable TV networking which had so far been an unorganized domain.
By the end of September 2014, CAS (Conditional Access System) shall become mandatory for cable TV connection including Imphal.
In short, from November 2014 (as per TRAI), like the DTH, you should be able to choose a pack of your own choice and pay for what want to watch.
The law will also require every consumer be counted and every TV set requires a Set Top Box for the cable TV connection.
The new scenario has thrown up a huge challenge for existing cable operators as well as open up a hitherto uncovered market.
Imphal city with its two districts of Imphal West and Imphal East together has an estimated 1, 50, 000 homes with television (as per 2011 census there are 1.34 lakh households with TV in the two districts).
With several homes possessing three to four TV sets the total number of TV population in these two districts may be estimated to anywhere between 2.5-3 lakh sets.
In this changing scenario, reaching out to the entire state with quality service is also becoming a big challenge for any single service provider.
Impact Cable TV Network with an acronym of Impact TV, aims to fill the void and bring forth a qualitative change in the dissemination of information in the society and provide viewers with a quality signal and service at par with the global standards.
Before providing the digital signal, the Impact TV announced its analogue channel on Saturday which will be launched in the middle of January next year as a test signal for implementation of digital signal.
"Impact TV will be providing this analogue signal along with our flagship channel-impact TV news and 30 plus popular channels free of cost in the middle of January next year till we turn our channels fully digital," announced Yumnam Rupachandra, director coordination, Impact Medianet & Communication (P) Ltd during a press meet at the Imphal Hotel conference hall here.
He said the Impact TV Network is also envisioning for the outreach of its channels not only to the entire population of Manipur but also to every nook and corner of the world through satellite channel.
Rupachandra also announced that to strengthen to achieve its goals, Impact TV will have strategic alliance with the popular Cable-Network-Image TV of Kakching which commands respect in the area of its operation.
He added that similarly Impact TV Network would be pursuing alliances with networks from other parts of Manipur as well as outside the state to give the people a wider reach and exposure.
