Sekmai bodies resolve to ban tender for quarries

Imphal, May 12 2013:
A joint meeting of local clubs and Meira Paibi Lup of Sekmai area including Advanced Women's Society and Sekmai Protection Committee held on Sunday has resolved to ban the tender for sand and stone quarries at Sekmai River for some years.
The meeting was convened at Sekmai Koujeng Leima Lampak.
It further resolved to ban entry of vehicles at Sekmai River from June 1 onwards and impose a fine of Rs.5000 to anybody who violates the ban.
A member of Advanced Women's Society stated that the condition of Sekmai River has deteriorated drastically due to the presence of numerous sand and stone quarries.
The organizations have jointly called for a ban on tender for quarries with the objective of conserving Sekmai River.
Meanwhile, the meeting of Sekmai Development Committee convened in connection with the tender for quarries was thwarted by the members of local clubs and Meira Paibi Lup of Sekmai area, who are in support of banning the tender.
