Imphal, October 05 2016:
Of the 3,06,039 vehicles in the State, so far 1,61,600 vehicles have been fitted with the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP), said the Directorate of Transport in a notification today.
Of the total vehicles fitted with the HSRP, two wheelers (motor cycle) account for 19,062, two wheelers (scooters) 78,270, three wheelers 10,681,, four wheelers (heavy) 1,333, four wheelers (LMV) 52,254, said the notification.
HSRP was made mandatory following a directive from the Supreme Court on December 8, 2011 and the same was implemented in the State on April 12, 2012, said the Transport Department.
The HSRP is a highly sensitive product for prevention of crimes with high security features to prevent counterfeiting.
However the provision of memory chips or any tracking device like GPS/GIS is out of the purview of the HSRP scheme at present, said the notification.
The State police have been requested to book motor vehicles not affixed with the HSRP , said the notification and added that the Transport Department will further coordinate with other law enforcing agencies with intimation of date of expiry two years ahead for affixation of the HSRP to avert undue inconveniences to the public.
