Imphal, July 28 2021:
While acknowledging that the government has been taking up several initiatives for containing Covid-19 in the state, JNIMS director Prof L Deven has made it clear that the government and healthcare workers (HWCs) could not defeat the pandemic without the support and effort of the people.
Speaking to media persons at JNIMS administrative block on Wednesday, Prof Deven cautioned that the second wave has escalated Covid positivity in the state.
In order to contain the spread of the virus, the government has been taking up several initiatives including imposition of lockdown and curfew in the state.
The pandemic could only be defeated when everyone joins hands and works together, he added.
Urging the people to take the responsibility of strictly following SOP guidelines laid down by the government including wearing of face masks, frequent washing of hands and maintaining social distancing norms, Prof Deven exhorted the people to get vaccinated against Covid-19 without fail as vaccination is the only way to defeat the pandemic.
He further informed that out of the 348 people who died due to Covid-19, only three were administered the first dose of Covid vaccine.
People should undergo test if there is any symptoms as early detection and treatment could save them from critical conditions.
JNIMS has been providing free Covid testing service on Monday, Tuesday and Friday every week, he pointed out.
Deven also informed that 190 beds in general ward, 40 ICU and 26 beds in post Covid ward have been utilised for treating Covid patients in JNIMS.
An additional 10 ICU beds will also be included in the near future for treating the patients, he added.
