Jiribam, October 15 2014:
All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union (AJWJU) president Ng Biswajit, after a survey of Imphal-Jiribam road today said Jiribam, though a part of Imphal east district, has been long neglected by the State Government owing to which it falls behind every area of development.
Jiribam does not have access to the most necessary aspect of modern life - information technology, Bishwajit stated.
The want of IT facilities in the area has hindered communication with the mainstream areas.
AJWJU has approached the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam with a proposal to set up a Department of Information and Public Relation (DIPR) office in Jiribam to improve the condition.
The ADC has, however, not responded to the proposal as yet, he added.
Jiribam, owing to its distance from the State capital (220km) has limited access to the news and information of the State.
The pathetic condition of the highway has compounded the vast distance from the capital making it impossible for State dailies to reach the area.
Information and technology plays a vital role in the development of a land, Bishwajit stated.
Jiribam, having been deprived of these necessary aspects could be termed one of the most underdeveloped part of Manipur.
Blaming the State Government for the condition, the president has also appealed for immediate establishment of DIPR, Radio station, DDK and BSNL network upgradation in Jiribam.
The union would also submit a memorandum to the CM through the ADC regarding the matter, he added.
