Imphal, September 13 2022:
The Joint Action Committee Against Rape and Sexual Harassment, SIMS submitted a memorandum each to the Governor and the Chief Minister urging for immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the rape case.
According JAC convenor Laishram Roshini Devi, the memorandum was submitted on Tuesday, urging them to direct the police to speed up the investigation and arrest the culprits involved in the case.
The state government, SIMS Institute, the four accused teachers and those trolling about the matter on social media platforms will be held responsible if anything untoward were to happen to the victim and her family.
The convenor continued that accused Surjitkumar had been trying to harm the victim since 2020 and made use of the victim's close friends, teachers of the Institute, and parents/guardians of some of the students.
The accused directed the above "minions" to capture indecent photos of the victim and tried to make the victim stay by his side at all times, while also spreading rumours in the Institute that they were in a relationship.
Miffed at the victim's continuous rejections and failure to woo her, the accused conspired with 3 other teachers and committed the crime, Roshini Devi claimed.
Questioning the state government if there was any other bigger crime than drugging a woman and raping her which the SIMS founder had done; the JAC further questioned if the founder's act of tossing over a bundle of Rs 500 and a new iphone to the victim, while taunting her to do whatever she feels like, is an act of disrespect to all women in general.
The JAC then stated that relevant process will be initiated to urge Cyber Crime to take action against those on social media, who are not privy to the details of the case and apathetic of the victim's suffering but continue to post heinous comments under the guise of freedom of speech.
The convenor also questioned what SIMS Institute has done till date to help the victim, who is also one of its students.
Feigning silence will never be accepted by the people.
However, it must be noted that the JAC has never stood against the students and parents/guardians of the Institute, but is merely asking the Institute to bear some responsibility for the crime was committed by its founder/managing director.
While cautioning that those found sheltering/protecting the four accused in the SIMS rape case could face the wrath of the people, the JAC urged for the four accused to be taken into police custody and conduct a detailed investigation, before filing the chargesheet and awarding befitting punishments.
