Kangpokpi, July 03 2014:
Distressed by the unresponsiveness of the concerned authority over the demand for payment of wages to job card holders under MGNREGA in respect of the two blocks in Senapati District, the two associations of Paomata and Purul TD Block today highlighted the grievances of the deprived villagers.
In a joint statement, Paomata TD Block Chairmen & Secretaries Association and Purul Block Chairmen & Secretaries Association, pointed out that 70 days' wages under MGNREGA for the year 2013-14 have not been paid to the job card holders till date despite completion of works allotted to them and repeated complaints put forth before the concerned authority.
It is said that Paomata consisted of 21 villages and Purul comprised 31 villages.
Not a single day wage has been released so far for the year 2014-2015, continued the joint statement.
While taking strong exception to the centralisation of MGNREGS with Manipur State Rural Development Agency (MSRDA) as the implementing nodal agency, the two block associations appealed for immediate decentralisation for better implementation of the programme in the rural districts.
They also demanded equal treatment in all districts of Manipur by the concerned authorities.
Demanding the concerned authority to redress the grievances of the villagers at the earliest, the two Associations warned of launching any democratic agitation if it fails to fulfill the demands.
