Kakching, August 06 2014: Protesting against lack of medical staff in Sugnu Community Health Centre, local people have threatened to close down the OPD of the Health Centre if the State Government fails to provide adequate doctors and other sub-ordinate staff by August 16 .

Demanding posting of adequate doctors and other staff, Joint Co-ordination Committee of Meira Paibi, club and local organizations of Sugnu organized a sit-in protest in front of the CHC, Sugnu today.

During the protest, placards with slogans like 'Please give us our Doctors', 'We demand enough Medical Officers and sub-Ordinate Staff', 'Government neglect people of Sugnu Area', 'High Patients low Doctors', 'Sugnu area being remote area face acute medical problems' etc.

were displayed.

Speaking to media on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, a member of the Joint Co-ordination Committee Moirangthem Premjit alias Sanajaoba, who is also the secretary of VOICE, Sugnu said that the sit-in protest was organized by people of Sugnu following shortage of medical staff in the Community Health Centre.

At present, the present strength of staff at the health centre is below fifty percent of the required strength, he stated, while informing that 'although the health centre had 4 doctors earlier, 2 of them got transferred and remaining 2 others are at present running the centre' .

With one of the doctors applied for earned leave for 21 days which is likely to extend up to 2 months, only one doctor is there to look after the patients, said the Joint Co-ordination Committee member.

He further said that the people of four Districts namely Chandel, Churachandpur, Thoubal and Bishenpur are availing medical facilities from the Sugnu Community Health Centre which used to provide 24x7 health care services during 2011 .

Appealing to the state government to provide adequate medical staff for the Community Health Centre at the earliest, Moirangthem Premjit warned that the people of Sugnu will close down the OPD of the Community Health Center, if the state government fails to do so before August 16 .
