Imphal, September 05 2012:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has made necessary preparation for ensuring the success of the 12 hours 'total bandh' being called by North East Students' Organisation (NESO) from 5 am to 5 pm tomorrow.
The bandh is being called against the alleged discriminatory attitude of mainland Indians towards the people of North East region.
In a statement, AMSU informed that special action committees of its various district and units have been formed to ensure the success of the bandh and appealed to all the Civil Society Organisations, Clubs, Meira Paibi bodies, Transport Associations/Unions, government and private employees to support the bandh.
Furthermore, the student body urged all the candidates of ensuring Panchayat elections to stop canvassing during the course of the bandh.
However, essential services like medical, media and religious functions would be exempted from the purview of the bandh, the AMSU statement added.
It is said that a delegation of AMSU by its President Th Suresh has already left for Assam to meeting a protest meeting as show of solidarity to the cause of NESO.
