430 cases of drug haul registered in State from 2007 to June 2014

As many as 430 cases of haul of contraband drugs were registered during the period from 2007 to June 2014, Home Minister Gaikhangam stated during question hour in the State Assembly today.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Y.Erabot on how many cases of drug haul were registered from the year 2007, Home Minister Gaikhangam said there were 430 cases of drug haul while 657 owners of the contraband drugs were arrested during the period.
Clarifying that there has been no report of arrest of fake owners; he added a few of the cases have been handed over to CBI.
Those involved in the illegal trafficking of drugs will get befitting punishment without any favouritism or leniency, Gaikhangam reiterated, and added that no accused will be spared.
Referring to the drug haul case at Imphal Airport, MLA Erabot in his supplementary remarks queried whether there was case of arrest of fake owner and whether the government could identify those involved in the case.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Th.Shyamkumar on which ground the gun licenses in Manipur is being issued, Gaikhangam said the gun licenses are issued in the state under the Arms Act, 1959 and Arms Rules, 1962 .
The Minister made it cleared that the license-holders are not provided training as the guns issued are not sophisticated ones.
He, however, assured the House to look into the necessity of providing trainings to gun license holders considering the law and order situation in Manipur.
In his supplementary note, MLA Shyamkumar pointed out that there is strong need to impart training to gum license holders who should be made aware of the circumstances in which licensed guns are allowed to be used.
He added that untimely use of license guns would invite trouble.
Replying to another query from MLA Y.Erabot, Home Minister Gaikhangam informed the House that there was no recruitment of police from 2002 to 2004, and added that in 2005, as many as 776 police personnel were recruited.
In 2006, recruitments were done for 464 Havildars and 199 women constables, while 1284 riflemen were recruited in 2007, Gaikhangam continued, adding that 2587 constables, 42 women and 9 men Sub-Inspectors, and 72 women and 14 Assistant Sub-Inspectors were recruited in 2009 .
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip, replying to a question from MLA Shyamkumar, informed the House that the Thoubal Multipurpose project is slated to be completed by March 2016.The project is going to benefit the people in various aspects, he added.
Chief Minister O.Ibobi, in reply to a question raised by MLA Samuel Risom, stated that the government is taking up works for construction of 7 tourists homes in Ukhrul district.
The Chief Minister informed that the places for construction of the tourist homes are at Ukhrul DC Office premises, Sirui, Mahadev, Finch Corner, Hundung, Nungbi and Jessami.
