GST Outreach programme held

A Goods and Service Tax (GST) Outreach programme was organised at GM Hall by Central Excise & Service Tax, Imphal Range, today.
Speaking at the event, Shillong Central Excise and Service Tax Commissioner Gaigongdin Panmei said that the programme has been organised all over the country to make the people aware of the benefits and simplification brought by GST with regards to taxes.
He said, "People with small scale and large scale businesses are paying taxes and these taxes are scrutinised separately by both the Central and the State Governments.
India has three kinds of taxes namely direct tax, indirect tax and other taxes" .
Direct tax are for to be paid by an individual directly and is normally under the control of CBD of the Revenue Department.
Indirect tax are normally reserved for goods and services while other taxation include professional taxes for Government revenue and property taxes paid to Municipalities.
Other taxations are normally different from one State to another.
He pointed out that paying taxes to the Government is critical for bringing development as the taxes are utilised in various projects and initiatives and also helps in reducing the problem of unemployment in the long run.
Gaigongdin Panmei said that the current taxation system of the country needs some revision and the people need to be made aware of the importance of paying taxes.
Central Excise and Service Tax, Shillong Superintendent Daniel Hauzel gave a powerpoint presentation at the event in which Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industries vice president Basudev Singh and many officials from different departments also attended.
