Imphal, December 06 2023:
The armed Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) and Zeliangrong Statehood Working Committee (ZSWC) engaged in their third round of political discussions with the Government of India on Tuesday in Delhi.
The outcome of the talks was deemed positive, fostering mutual understanding on the oldest tribal political issues concerning the Zeliangrong people in Northeast India, informed a statement of ZUF.
The statement said that both parties delved into historical, political, and socio-economic aspects, aiming for an early settlement of the Zeliangrong political aspirations.
A joint commitment was made to explore pragmatic and comprehensive measures to be discussed in the next round of talks.
During the discussions, ZUF expressed awareness of destabilising activities orchestrated by NSCN-IM, particularly in Tamenglong and among the Zeliangrong people.
The recent Consultative Meeting of NSCN-IM's military wing, led by self-styled Army Chief Anthony Shimray on Wednesday, was viewed as an attempt to derail the ongoing Zeliangrong political talks with the Government of India.
The Front criticised the militaristic involvement in political matters, emphasising that the activities of NSCN-IM are tarnishing the Naga historical narrative.
ZUF voiced disappointment over NSCN-IM's disregard for the significant historical contributions of Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu, pioneers of Naga nationalism.
The Front condemned NSCN-IM for what they perceived as an insult to the Zeliangrong people and the broader Naga community.
In light of the unfolding events, the Front urged the Zeliangrong people not to be misled by the political manoeuvres of NSCN-IM, characterising them as attempts to garner public support for sustaining their authority.
The Front emphasised the need for vigilance and discernment among the Zeliangrong populace, cautioning against placing blind hope in the Indo-Naga peace process, which they suggested had reached an impasse with no visible solutions on the horizon.
Zeliangrong United Front remains committed to pursuing a just and lasting resolution to the political issues affecting the Zeliangrong people, advocating for their historical contributions and cultural identity amidst the evolving political landscape.
The next round of talks is anticipated to address contextual and contemporary solutions to propel the ongoing peace process forward, the statement added.
