Imphal, July 26 2014 :
In comme-moration of the Kargil War of 1999 between India and Pak-istan, the Kargil Vijay Divas was observed today at 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall.
Jawans from Manipur who achieved martyrdom in the war were fondly remembered and their families were given monetary assistance from the side of the Ex-servicemen Association today.
The main feature of the function was remembrance of the valour and supreme sacrifice made by the jawans in order to safeguard the integrity and sovereignty of the country.
Attending the function as chief guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi asserted that no citizen can tolerate any challenge directed against the integrity of Manipur and India even though other matters can be negotiated.
There are threats on Indo-Myanmar border while China is posing continuous challenge in Arunachal Pradesh.
All the citizens of the country are prepared to face these challenges.

The Manipuri soldiers who were killed in Kargil War always evoked a mixed feeling of despair and pride.
"We are said because they died young.
At the same time, we are proud for their valour and sacrifice for the cause of the nation," Ibobi stated.
For their supreme sacrifice, India has given due recognition to Manipur.
Ibobi stated that he felt privileged to honour the families of the heroes by giving them little monetary assistance.
The Chief Minister announced that the Government would start presenting token gifts to the surviving families of the war heroes from next year in acknowledgement of the valour and sense of patriotism shown by the soldiers.
In his presidential speech, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated that Pakistani soldiers who intruded into Indian territory were successfully driven back on July 26 and this day would be always remembered by India.
This historic day signifies military and diplomatic victory for India.
The war reinforced the LOC's sanctity and after the war Pakistan was isolated from the comity of nations, Gaikhangam asserted.
