Former Minister Karam Shyam urges Govt to take care of homeless drug users

Former Minister Karam Shyam today urged the State Government to take up steps to take care of homeless drug users during this time of pandemic.
He was speaking at an interaction programme held at Enoong-ngal De-Addiction & Rehabilitation Centre, Ghari Makha Leikai organised by User Connection & Support Committee Kangleipak in collaboration with the centre.
Karam Shyam said, Rohan Philem, an orphan, has been doing a lot of humanitarian works.
"We should make a decision and challenge ourselves to become better persons everyday and stop wasting our lives by using drugs," he advised the young drug users who are undergoing treatment at the center.
"When the thought of helping some one in need crosses your mind, that is the day when you start living live boldly," he further said.
"Today we can see many young MA, BA degree holders earning their livelihood by working with KEDO in helping women vendors carry their goods and taking care of it during the day time and at night time they do their studies to become a productive member of the society," he said.
"So you guys can also work to become a productive member of the society and understand the true meaning of life," he added.
The former Minister speaking at the programme also promised to extend every possible help from his side.
Karam Shyam said there are many homeless drug users in the State who sleeps at market areas and roadsides and due to the COVID-19 lockdown they are in their worst conditions.
As many as 30 homeless drug users have been undergoing treatment at the Enung-ngal De Addiction & Rehabilitation Centre with the help of User Connection & Support Committee Kangleipak and Enung-ngal De Addiction & Rehabilitation Centre under the leadership of cyclist, Rohan Philem, he said.
While encouraging the NGOs working to help drug users return to normal life, he also assured to help them financially.
