Imphal, December 13 2016:
Around 50 students of Catholic School, Canchipur and Christ Joyti School, Mantripukri have been barred from appearing BOSEM's Class X Exam 2017 by the school authorities.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM head office, Keishampat today, on behalf of the guardians of Catholic School students, Soibam Nandakumar said that out of 249 Class X students of Catholic School Canchipur, names of 39 students have been removed from the list of students who would appear in the upcoming Class X exam to be conducted by BOSEM.
The students had been denied the opportunity to appear the exam on the ground that their performance in the pre-board examination was too poor.
Even as the guardians appealed to the school authorities to allow their children to appear the examination and let BOSEM decide whether their children are qualified enough to pass the examination or not, the school authorities rejected their appeal saying that their decision was final and the academically week students would not be allowed to appear the class X BOSEM examination as it was about prestige of the school.
He also said that they condemned such decision taken by school authorities at the last minute.
He said that they enrolled their children in the school for better education and spent lots of money.
Khikhi, guardian of a Christ Joyti School's student said that the same problem are also faced by 14 students of the school.
DESAM general secretary Nameirakpam Edison said that they have no authority to interfere in the examination conducted by the school but denying the students to appear for board exam is violation of their right to education.
It is BOSEM which should decide whether the students are qualified enough for higher studies or not, not school authorities, Edison said.
He also appealed the Education Department to look into such incidents.
He also said that if the students are weak in studies then the school authority should take up remedial measures like coaching class for weaker students.
School authorities should immediately stop using educational institutions as business enterprises for earning easy money.
