Sekmai decries assault by militants

The Progressive Youth Development Organisation (PYDO), Awang Sekmai has threatened to launch intense modes of agitation in case all those people allegedly involved in mercilessly thrashing a man who hails from Awang Sekmai are not booked within a week.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, PYDO general secretary Kh Roshan said that Amom Joseph (28) s/o Nitai of Awang Sekmai was beaten black and blue by three unidentified persons suspected to be cadres of KRA at Taphou Kuki village under Senapati police station at around 10 pm of December 7 .
Joseph has not recovered fully and steel rods are inside his body after he met with a road accident sometime back.
Three persons including KRA cadre Senminthang alias Stephen alias Nanao (25) of Kangchup Chingkhong but presently staying at Taphou Kuki were involved in the assault, Roshan alleged.
A report was filed and subsequently an FIR was registered at Sekmai police station.
All the assailants should be booked and punished within a week else people of Awang Sekmai would be compelled to launch different modes of intense agitation, he said.
Amom Joseph who was also present at the press meet said that he and one Konibo Liangmai (50) of Kanglatongbi were pulling a broken down jeep from Tadubi to Awang Sekmai using his jeep when they were stopped by two unidentified persons at Taphou Kuki at around 10 pm of December 7.The two persons thrashed him and they also called a third person through mobile phone.
The assailants also confiscated two mobile phones from Joseph and Konibo in addition to snatching Rs 1000 from Joseph.
Even though Joseph was beaten black and blue, Konibo was not touched, according to the victim.
He escaped from the ordeal only after arrival of an Assam Rifles patrol team.
