Imphal, March 10 2016:
The JAC constituted against the arrest of three local Church members of Namthangjang Rongmei village, Senapati district has threatened to impose an indefinite bandh on Imphal-Jiribam highway from the midnight of March 12 if the arrested persons are not released.
Speaking to media persons here today, JAC chairman K Thangonglung condemned the act of arresting the three alleged innocent villagers.
If they are not released by March 12, an indefinite bandh would be imposed on Imphal-Jiribam highway from the midnight of the same day.
He said that a memorandum highlighting the same demand was submitted to Chief Minister O Ibobi yesterday.
Namthangjang Church committee treasurer Gaikhanlung Gangmei (42), deacon Geihempou Kamei and Church secretary Namthanlung Riamei were arrested by a team of Sapermeina police from Langjing when they were travelling in an auto-rickshaw at around 7 am of March 8 .
Examination related activities, power, water supply, medical services, religious activities and media would not be covered by the bandh, Thangonglung said.
It is said that an FIR has been registered at Sapermeina police station against them on the charge of rioting.
However, Thangonglung maintained that the three Church members were arrested based on false information fed by former village secretary Makudinang Riamei.
For selling earth excavated from the village land and swindling Rs 2.90 lakh released for MGNREGS 2015-16, Makudinang was banished from the village.
He was banished from the village after he failed to clarify the charges made against him.
Enraged by the arrogance of Makudinang, a group of villagers vandalised his house on February 15 .
However, he blamed the three Church members for the vandalism, said the JAC chairman.
