Molestation charge lands 3 in police net

Churachandpur police yesterday arrested three salesmen on charges of molesting a woman at Rengkai as one of them reportedly forced his hands on the married woman after noticing that she was alone in the house, drawing a strong protest from people that eventually forced the police to resort to firing several rounds in the air to quell an agitated crowd.
Hmar Women Association Rengkai unit has claimed that one of the three salesmen identified as Md Nafir Malik (26) who was hawking cooking gas stoves house to house in Rengkai area on seeing a young married woman alone in the house forced his hands on her.
The woman then sensing trouble screamed and alerted her neighbours who managed to detained two of his friends who were waiting in a Maruti Van at around 11am.Later in the day, Churachandpur police trailing the main culprit managed to arrest him from Keishampat area in Imphal.
Sensing the tense situation in the district they have handed him over to Moirang PS, said the source adding, when the public learnt about the arrest, a large number of people gathered in front of the district police station demanding that Malik be handed over to them.
As the crowd became more provocative on their demand police resorted to firing several rounds in the air to quell the surging crowd at around 7.30 pm.
The main accused Md Nafir Malik (26) son of Md Yusuf Malik of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh but presently residing at KR Lane, New Checkon and two of his accomplices detained by the public of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh but presently residing at KR Lane, New Checkon and two of his accomplices detained by the public with their Van, also identified as Paravej (24), son of Iqbal of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh and Md Thoiba (30) son of Md Juma Khan of Keibung Makha Leikai, Thoubal were produced before the court today.
They were remanded to police custody till November 30 .
The police have registered a case under section 450/354/511/34 of the Indian Penal Code.
The crowd that detained two of the accused has reportedly damaged the Van they were travelling with besides setting ablaze about 8 gas stoves that were on their possession.
Main accused Malik and Paravej had reportedly came in the State about a couple of weeks back along with a good number of gas stoves which they intended to sale in the State.
