In response to the country-wide strike call of Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives' Association of India, the Imphal Unit of the Centre for Medical and Sales Representatives' Union, North East Region would be observing a day-long strike tomorrow in pursuance of its demands from the Central Government.
The demands include stopping imposition of excise duty on essential medicines, reduction of excise duty to 4 percent on other medicines, to review the policy of imposing excise duty and income tax exemption on medicines in some States, to revert the cost-based excise duty on medicines, to stop fake drugs, stronger law to punish manufacturers and sellers of fake drugs, to implement laws to punish companies bribing medical practitioners and companies indulging unfair trading of medicines, to notify 'sales promotion' as 'industry', to amend law for statutory working rules, to extend SPE Act in all industries, to institute an All India Tripartite Committee on sales promotion employees, State-amendments of Section 2 (s) of I D Act for sales promotion employees, State's fixation and enforcement of minimum wages and not to remove sales promotion employees from MRTU and PULP Act.
