The personnel of the border security forces have rescued eight individuals including senior officials of the food corporation of India from the clutches of the kidnappers near Khongkhang along the Imphal Moreh road this afternoon.
However, deputy director of FCI identified as Sadashivam is yet to be rescued from the hands of the kidnappers, sources added.
According to Deputy Inspector General of BSF Nagaland and Manipur sector P K Misra, tie personnel of 37 battalion post located at Khongkhang is still chasing the militants and trying their best to rescue Sadashivam.
The rescued individuals are Ch Ashuni Kumar (Asst Manager of FCI), RPC Rim (Manager FCI), Aribam Sanaton, Ningthoujam Tombi, Mayanglambam Bijoy, H Ranjit, Thangjam Kiranand and Thangjam Tombi.
Sources said all of them were on their way to a worksite near Moreh, the border town to inspect a construction work of a FCI godown.
While they were travelling in two vehicles including one gypsy (MN 1G-1147) and one Mahindra Jeep (MN1A-6674), they were stopped by the unidentified armed persons near Khongkhang and tried to take away all of them to somewhere.
However soon after recieving the information the BSF team chased them and rescued.
During the incident, an encounter between the kidnappers and personnel of the BSF was also took place.
However there is no report of any casualty.
In another incident, three vehicles coming from Moreh, the border town of the state were looted by the unidentified gunmen along the Imphal Moreh route today sources said here.
The looted vehicles include one Tata Sumo (MN02/5029), a maruti van (MN061-0982) and another vehicle bearing the registration number MN 1A/9455.
