Oil tanker in the state will stay off the NH-39 with immediate effect until a written assurance comes from the government�s side regarding compensation for the eight oil tankers which were damaged on September 7 at Senapati district.
This was announced today by the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers� and Motor Workers� Union and All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Driver�s Union, Mini Tata Owners�-cum-Divers� Welfare Association and All Manipur Sand and Stone Suppliers� Association.
Talking to reporters at the office of the AMRTDMWU, the representatives resented that with or without escort, they face problems while plying on the NH-39.Stating that they will ply only under escort of security convoy, they also insisted on ROP in the NH-39 on both sides of Manipur and Nagaland.
They also disclosed that thy have surrounded all their vehicles and keys to the IRB at Khuman Lampak.
Meanwhile, Th Kula Singh, the driver who was severely injured during September 7 attack on 79 Imphal-bound oil tankers in Senapati district by Nagas, gave a terrifying account of the incident.
He said the miscreants pelts stones from a very close range and broke the wind shields.
Then stones hit his forehead and he fell unconscious.
He was evacuated in an IRB vehicle.
After driving a kilometer and a half from the Forest Gate, he regained consciousness and heard some blank fire.
He reached Imphal at around 10.30 pm and had to have 12 stitches on his forehead at JN Hospital.
