An open house discussion on 'implementation of Suspension of Agreement and Way Ahead for a lasting Peace' was held today at HQs 27 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division.
Informing that GOC Red Shield Division Maj Gen DS Hooda presided over the event, a PIB (DW) release conveyed that the participants were briefed about the provision/rules and regulations contained in the SoO agreement and after which the speakers spoke on subjects such as 'contributions of SoO agreement towards Peace and development', 'Tribal cohesiveness for lasting peace', 'challenge of existing security situation' and 'measures to give impetus to peace and development'.
Apart from thorough deliberation by 27 Sector Assam Rifles Commander brig Surendra Mehta on the proposed 'road map and challenges to occupation of designated camps, representatives of SoO groups voiced their opinion, it said.
In his address, Maj Gen Hooda reiterated commitment of security forces to take the peace process forward from the present stage.
Further opining that State security forces alone cannot make it happen, the GOC strongly emphasised on the role of civil society, NGOs and women organisations in sustaining the peace venture.
The approach and content in the open house discussion was very pragmatic and the audience appreciated efforts of the Red Shield Division to get all affected parties on one platform to put their minds together and discuss such a live issue, the PIB (DW) release added.
It is also informed that the programme was an extension of the series of similar events conducted earlier and have special significance as cadres of SoO signatories have moved into designated camps and deposited their weapons in double lock system.
The large gathering had dignitaries from all walks of life including educationists, tribal leaders, village chiefs, representatives of SoO groups, district administration and security forces.
