Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi today inaugurated a three-day International Live Surgery Workshop on HERNIACON 2010 SELSI-EZ-CON 2010 ASIMANICON 2010 at RIMS Jubilee hall, jointly organized by Association of Surgeons of India, Manipur State Branch, Department of Surgery, and Department of Anaesthesia.
Addressing the inaugural function, Chief Minister said that the workshop on live surgery held for the first time in the state will provide facilities of conducting surgery by surgeons from outside the state to the people of the state.
Observing that there are shortages of manpower and sophisticated equipment in the RIMS which is one of the prestigious healthcare institutes, the Chief Minister said that the state government had hoped to raise this institute up to the level of AIIMS after it was taken over by the central government.
But it seems that the centre has forgotten the RIMS.
He will draw the attention of the concerned Union ministry to take up improvement works, Chief Minister said assuring that state government is always ready to extend assistance to RIMS in taking up improvement works.
Considering that the institute is the biggest health institute under the central government in the northeastern region where many patients from across the region are treated, the state government is providing a dedicated power supply line of 24 hour service.
Observing that stone cases are very common in the state and many patients are going outside the state for surgery, he expressed hope that after the three day workshop, some changes which would provide better and more facilities in conducting such surgeries will emerge.
Inconveniences of the patients from going to hospitals outside the state will also be reduced.
RIMS director, Dr S Sekharjit presided over the function in which MLA Ng Bijoy, who is also the founder president of the Association of Surgeon of India, Manipur state branch attended as patron member.
Other dignitaries who were on the dais at the inaugural function were ASI president Dr NK Pandey, Prof GS Moirangthem president of the ASI, state branch, Prof MC Mishra president of Indian Hernia Society and Prof SD Maurya, president of Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeon of India.
