Imphal, June 05 2014:
Congratulating Narendra Modi on becoming the new Prime Minister of India, the United People's Front (UPF) has exuded confidence that the new Prime Minister would address the political demand of UPF and KNO which has been kept neglected and suppressed.
A press release issued by UPF information secretary Robinson Chongloi said that India is a land of diverse culture, customs, traditions and home to over 300 ethnic groups residing under one Government.
Manipur incidentally witnessed the highest number of ethnic clash, armed conflict and political demands on the lines of ethnicity.
UPF and KNO have been under Suspension of Operation agreements with the Government of India and Government of Manipur since August 2008 .
During the last six years, a number of parleys and conferences have been convened between representatives of UPF, KNO and Government of India to initiate a political dialogue.
Memoranda and charter of demands have been submitted on many occasions to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In spite of verbal assurances and announcements made by the Government of India to begin dialogue with UPF and KNO, nothing much has materialised.
Appointment of interlocutor has been kept pending at the Prime Minister's office for the two years by the UPA Government.
Saying that the future of the peace process is vague, the UPF confided that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would cut across caste, creed and religion and bring alive the dreams of a billion Indians and a world that needs his leadership.
