Thingpui observes World Environment Day

The Department of Forest Wild Life Wing, Government of Manipur in collaboration with the Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN), Manipur; Pole Star Guardians Association Thinungei (POSGAT) ; Thingpui Laimanai Village Authority and Centre for Conservation of Nature and cultivation of Science (CCNCS) held a World Environment Day programme under the theme, "Raise your Voice, not the Sea level", today at Thingpui Laimanai.
During the programme, L Jaikumar Singh, IFS, DCF, Bird and Sanctuary, Government of Manipur, was the Chief guest; DH Gaibung, Headman, Thingpui Laimanai village, was the President; Dr KMH Imokanta Singh, MFS Secretary, POSGAT and P Gaigangpou, Khunpu, Thingpui Laimanai village were the Guests of honour.
To save the environment and nature, Thingpui villagers also took an oath not to kill and harm the wild animals and birds.

Chief guest, L Jaikumar, on his speech said that if people's greed continue to exploit the ecological balance, wild animals and birds will extinct in no time.
He also said that the cause of global warming is not because of the rise of human population but rather due to deforestation, killing of wild animals and birds which disrupted the ecological balance.
He also appreciated the Thingpui village for initiating toestablish a community to reserve forest.
Functional President, TH Gaichung, said that the forest can be conserved only after taking a joint cooperative steps by the Forest Department and Thingpui village.
The villagers also organised an environment awareness rally under the slogan, "act today or never", " save earth, save environment" .
Meantime, NSS unit of Kumbi College also observed the World Environment Day by planting nursery trees in around the roadside of Kumbi to Wangu.
World Environment Day was also celebrated at Social Welfare complex, Takyel with Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai as chief guest.
Among others, Forest Department Conservator of Forests (Central Circle) Th Mahendra Pratap, Divisional Forest Officer Arun RS and Social Welfare Director L Ibobi also attended the function.
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) also observed the day with organising one-day saplings plantation drive, cycle rally and awareness campaign at Chingmeirong Cheiraoching.
BOSEM Chairman P Dhanakumar, DESAM President M Angamba, DM College Environment Science Assistant Prof Naorem Sanita and IMC Assistant Engineer Ch Menaka graced the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sylvan, Henbung also observed World Environment Day under the theme, 'Small Islands and Climate Change' with slogan, 'Raise your voice not the sea level at its campus.
Around 320 saplings were planted to mark the occasion, said a press release.
