Two National level taekwondo players have been rounded up for abusing the banned spasmo proxyvon (SP) tablets and handed over to functionaries of All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA).
The two Taekwondo players rounded up by Meira paibis of Wangkhei Durga Pujah Lampak area and later handed over to the custody of AMADA have been identified as Khumanthem Naobi alias Suresh (22) s/o Khumanthem Shyamkishore of Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi and Karnajit Keisham alias Sanatomba (17) s/o Keisham Priyobarta of Wangkhei Lourembam Leikai.
Naobi is said to have even won gold medal at the national level competition while Suresh is also a silver medallist in the national level in Taekwondo discipline.
Giving all these informations while talking to media persons at AMADA head office today, its executive team member LC Newton said it is really unfortunate that two players have been rounded up for abusing the SP tablets when AMADA has been making all out efforts to make Manipur a drug free State with special attention on promoting sporting activities to encourage youngsters from falling into drug habit.
From now on more stringent measures would be taken up in this regard, he affirmed.
Newton further informed that a person who had been rounded up earlier for selling and abusing SP tablets was again arrested during a drive launched at Wangkhei area today as he has not mended his ways and continued to indulge in supplying the banned pharmaceutical substances as well as abusing the same drug himself.
Identifying the apprehended person as one Thokchom Boy (22) s/o Th Chaoba from Wangkhei Thangapat Mapal in Imphal East district, the AMADA functionary said Boy was arrested along with three strips of SP tablets and the anti-drug organisation would be taking up appropriate punitive action against him.
