Imphal, April 30:
Asserting that the general public has lost its faith on the efficiency and integrity of the State PWD, the Zeliangrong Union (AM&N) has urged the State Government to hand over the construction work of Bishnupur-Nungba road (Old Cachar Road/Tongjei Maril) to BRTF/GREF.
A statement issued by ZU cautioned the Government of serious consequences in the near future in case it fails to hand over the road development to BRTF for effective and prompt implementation of the work.
It also reminded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had already sanctioned Rs 86 crores for the same work.
Elaborating on the incompetency of the State PWD and its repeated failure to meet deadlines, the ZU alleged that there was no improvement on ground even as crores of rupees and a number of years were spent in developing the Tamenglong-Tousem-Haflong road.
It warned all the officials and contractors concerned engaged for construction of the same road to come out with a detailed explanation as to where they have spent the money sanctioned for the development of Tamenglong-Tousem-Haflong road within 10 days or esle they will be held responsible for any eventuality .
The Union also insinuated misappropriation of the development fund which may run into thousands of rupees.
Noting that the revelation of PWD Tousem Sub-Division SO Sarat speak volumes about how some officials and contractors have been robbing public funds, ZU warned those particular contractors and officials to give up to the people within 5 days.
While extending gratitude to the Union Government for sanctioning Rs 55.1 crores for development/improvement of 12 roads in Tamenglong district under PMGSY, the ZU declared that it would be closely watching whether this amount is utilised effectively and for the right purpose.
It further appealed to all organisations/groups/individuals to cooperate with the Zeliangrong Union for the development of Tamenglong district.
