Consultative Meet on International Humanitarian Law held

Rural Peoples Development Federation (RPDF), Chandel in associated with United NGO's Mission Manipur (UNMM) organized a one Day Consultative Meet on International Humanitarian Law at Machi Village Community Hall in Chandel District today.
While deliberating on the on the topic relating to Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Articles of the United Nations Geneva Convention, Resource Person of the Consultative Meet, W.Basanta Kumar, Advocate Human Rights Alert said that committing crime against humanity and violation of the basic principles/Articles of UN Geneva Convention is a war crime.
He further said that even at War, the State Forces and outlaw Non State forces group should follow the basic principles/articles of the UN Geneva Convention.
If any State Forces or Non State Forces do not follow it and committed a war crime, they can be punished according to the International Humanitarian law.
While appealing to struggle collectively to repeal Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), W.Basanta Kumar also maintained that AFSPA which was enforced in Jammu & Kashmir and in some parts of North Eastern States violated the principles/articles of the UN Geneva Convention and Human Rights.
The government can use State Forces, if it thinks that there is armed conflict in our State or in any part of the country but they cannot enforce AFPSA.
AFPSA cannot be enforced even at war time as it violated the Human Rights, the Advocate added.
The Consultative meet was also attended by Boipu Koireng, Co-ordinator of United NGO's Mission, Manipur and M.Moses Maring, Chairman of United NGO's Mission, Chandel besides Village Chief, Village Authority Members and Church leaders as well as large number of youths.
