JAC demands Government book all perpetrators

A Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the killing of a woman staged a sit-in protest at Pheidinga in Imphal West on Saturday and demanded the Manipur Government to bring all perpetrators involved in the alleged rape and murder case to book.
On the sidelines of the protest, Joint Action Committee secretary H Guni Devi said victim, a resident of Sekmai Loitang Sadum Mana Ingkhol, was a mentally challenged woman.
The 35-year-old woman was found dead naked at Wangkha Loubuk, an open field around 5 am on Friday.
The Joint Action Committee leader demanded that the State Government bring all perpetrators to book.
She alleged that the woman was brutally murdered after being raped in the paddy field.
H Guni sought cooperation from all civil society organizations in the State to get justice in the killing.
A judicial inquiry should be ordered into the rape and murder case, she further demanded the Government.
She also demanded stringent punishment to the perpetrators and payment of Rs 10 lakh as ex-gratia to the next of kin.
The body of the woman has been deposited at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) mortuary for post mortem.
Guni pledged that the corpse now lying in RIMS mortuary will not be claimed by the Joint Action Committee and the family until the Manipur Government fulfills the demands.
Reports said the woman was brutally murdered by unidentified people after allegedly being gang-raped at Wangkha Loubuk.
The victim left home around 5:30 pm to enjoy Lai Haraoba festival celebrated at Mayang Langjing which is about half a kilometer from her residence, according to family sources.
The victim was alone when she went out from home.
Her family said she had psychiatric disorder.
She was still unmarried.
It is believed she was brutally murdered after being gang-raped.
It appeared that she was clubbed to death as her neck and face were stained with blood, said sources.
The victim's family members tried to trace her since she failed to return home till late night.
Her body was found at Wangkha Loubuk the next morning.
Police recovered a club stained with blood from the spot.
A team of Forensic Science Laboratory visited the site and conducted spot inquisition on the same day.
