Imphal, May 12 2013:
As part of its grass-root level outreach programme to raise awareness and taking the occasion to maximum villages, Maram Students' Union (MKS) celebrated the MOTHERS' DAY together with various churches today.
According to a statement issued by President of MKS Pungdi P Celestine, Apart from extending greetings and gratitude to mothers, messages were conveyed to them to raise alarm over the menace of atrocities and exploitation against women and child trafficking in various forms that are taking place almost everyday in Manipur.
In the name of education and better livelihood opportunities, ignorant parents are easily being lured to send their children to metro cities, which end up working long-hours in deplorable conditions.
So, on the occasion the Students' Union respectful urged the mothers to be sensitive over the menace so that their innocent young daughters and sons do not become a prey out of their casualness.
Not only in individual capacity, but also collectively as groups, associations, Mothers have been instrumental in public sphere highlighting various social issues.
Over the years, various Mothers' Associations/Women societies have become equal partners in the community building process.
