Establishment of Food Testing Laboratory discussed

The issue of the lack of a Food Testing Laboratory in the state was elaborately discussed in a State-Level Seminar on Food Law and Standard in Manipur held from December 7 to 8 in which it was resolved to recommend the concerned department for the establishment of a Food Testing Laboratory and also for the enactment of an act to provide food safety and standard in Manipur.
In the 2-day seminar organized by the Manipur Development Bureau, Deputy Director of Commerce and Industries S Joykumar Singh and Advocate Ch Bimolchandra Singh, General Secretary of the All Manipur Bar Association graced as Chief Guest and President respectively.
In addition, the function was also attended by M Tonjao, President of Association of Food Scientist and Technologists (Manipur Chapter), H Subhra Devi who is the Proprietor of Meira Foods and Th Joychandra Singh, Secretary of AFSTMC as he Guests of Honor.
A press release issued today by the Secretary of the Manipur Development Bureau said that these food testing laboratories should be installed in the areas of Imphal, Moreh, Jesami, Jiribam and Mao so that it tests the food items imported from other neighboring states and also from other countries and at the same time providing the test on own foods items and beverages.
