Chandel, September 10 2014:
Construction of bailey bridge over Chakpi River at Anal Khullen without an approach road, retaining wall and slap culvert has left the bridge in a poor shape, even though the construction work was completed within the scheduled time, Chandel Naga People's Organization (CNPO)has pointed out today.
With the construction work on the bailey bridge started on April 26, 2012 under the Public Works Department vide order no.EE/CDL/WO/2012-13/2, there was a glimpse of hope for ensuring better road connectivity for Anal Khullen with rest of the district.
However, absence of an approach road, retaining wall and culvert has left the bridge in a poor shape today, CNPO lamented.
It may be noted here that Anal Khullen, which is one of the oldest villages of the Anal Tribe is significant for the Anal community, and it is also the place where thousands of Ibudhou Wangbarel worshippers particularly the Meitei communities from Sugnu in Thoubal district used to pay visit for worshipping and other religious rituals every year.
The already completed 152 ft-long bridge was proposed and implemented during the period of K Ranjit Singh, former Minister Works and the Executive Engineer N Milan Singh.
Even though the Bridge was successfully completed within the time frame, the absence of an approaching road has rendered the Bridge not traversable.
Briefing media persons during an inspection visit by a team of CNPO on September 6 last, CNPO President Ws Kanral Anal, while thanking the department and the contractors concerned for completing the work on time, appealed for inclusion of the works for approaching road, retaining wall and slap culvert under the new work programme SPA 2014-15 .
