Imphal, August 04 2014:
Congress legislator RK Anand on Monday said he hoped the demands for imposition of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Manipur would be fulfilled, but added that it could take more time.
ILP under Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations 1873 was put into effect in the state of Manipur for a long time, but it was later revoked by the Government of India after Manipur was merged with the Indian Union, Anand said.
The Congress MLA was speaking to reporters while inspecting developments schemes being taken up in his constituency in Imphal West.
Replying to a media query, Anand said it was true that Manipur had been experiencing unrestrained influx of non-locals into the state.
However, he added that any citizen of the country can reside anywhere in India.
Anand said Manipur Legislative Assembly has adopted resolution twice for introduction of ILP system in the state and described the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh's statement made in the just ended state assembly session on the ILP issue as 'very important' .
Ibobi promised in the recently ended Manipur budget session that his Government would call an All Political Party meeting to discuss the ILP issue.
He had also assured that the public would also be invited for the discussion.
Suggesting for enforcement of a law, that is mutually agreed both by the Centre and state Governments, to end the deadlock, Anand assured that all the MLAs have not sidelined the ILP issue.
However, the MLA stressed that a joint deliberation on the issue with the public is necessary.
