Imphal, August 02 2012:
The Kuki People's Forum (KPF) Chandel district has appealed to the authorities concerned to release public funds in time and also to station all Government officials including SDOs and BDOs (posted in the district) at their respective offices.
Speaking to media persons at K Phailen village, Chandel district yesterday morning, KPF president J Baite said that there were cases when huge amounts of money sanctioned for development programmes and welfare schemes in Chandel district got lapsed without ever reaching the beneficiaries due to failure of Government officials to release the funds in time.
Even though villages like Jangoulen, Khengjoi, Tengnoupal, Sonjang, Sehlon and Khangbarol have PHSC's and dispensaries, there are no adequate staff.
As such, people cannot enjoy any kind of benefit from their presence.
Saying that health care system still remains an illusion to the people of these villages, J Baite sought immediate attention of the CMO to send the necessary staff.
When the KPF conducted an inspection tour, the Khengjoi SDO and the Khangbarol BDO were found functioning from Imphal even as they have their offices at Khengjoi and Khangbarol respectively.
Running these public offices from Imphal has been only denying the local people their right to development.
For a mere signature of the SDO or the BDO, the villagers have to spend a substantial sum of money and go all the way to Imphal and back.
The Government should ensure that both the SDO and the BDO are stationed at their respective offices at the earliest, J Baite demanded.
Nevertheless, on behalf of the KPF, Baite hailed the Government and its officials for their spot survey of paddy fields and distribution of water pump sets for irrigation of dry paddy fields.
He also sought attention of the Government towards the paddy fields of Sajik Tampak where paddy cannot be cultivated due to inadequate rainfall.
In case the Government fails to respond positively to all these appeals, Kuki People's Forum (KPF) would be constrained to set its own course of action in the interest of the people, he added.
