A condolence meeting of a colossus communist leader and long-time Chief Minister of West Bengal, Jyoti Basu, was held today at Paona Auditorium, Ibothoi Korea Market located at Paona Bazar here under the aegis of Communist Party of India (Marxist).
The condolence meeting was attended by various leaders of left parties and other political parties of the state.
Presidium members of the condolence meeting were state NCP president, Radhabinod Koijam; senior comrade of the Manipur state committee CPI (M), Shamu; secretary of CPI (M) Manipur state council, Sarat Salam; secretary (in-charge) of CPI, Manipur State council, L Sotin Kumar; and MPP representative, A Sidam.
The gatherings observed two-minute silence as a token of respect apart from paying floral tributes to the departed soul.
The meeting recalled the contributions of Jyoti Basu (b July 14, 1914) in the communist movement in India.
He became the Chief Minister of West Bengal in 1977.He was the CM of West Bengal till November 2000 .
Jyoti Basu was also remembered as an unbiased leader who worked for all sections of the people irrespective of caste and creed.
