Imphal, September 09 2018:
The 1st Death Anniversary of Pravish Chanam, who mysteriously died in Noida last year, was held at Uripok Achom Leikai today.
The function was graced by AMUCO president Ph Deban, Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) president RK Sanahanbi, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ema Lup (AMKIL) president Ph Sakhi, All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Nupi Apunba Lup president Soibam Momon Leima, AMKIL vice president L Nganbi and NBL advisor Binoshoja as the presidium members.
Many people paid floral tributes at the portrait of Pravish Chanam in the morning as a part of the observation.
Speaking at the function, Deban decried the failure to bring justice in the death of Pravish Chanam even though it been one year since the incident occurred.
He stated that the inability to deliver justice not only shows the failure on the part of the Central Government, State Government and other authorities concerned, but also prove the weakness of the CSOs and people of the State.
He lamented that the dead body of Pravish Chanam was claimed to have been cremated without even informing through the media by the police station concerned at Noida and further alleged that such conduct on the part of the police has aroused strong suspicion that the Manipuri youth might have been killed in collusion with some influential persons.
Saying that Manipuris are relentless/persistent/tenacious when they seek justice for something, the AMUCO president urged all to prove the same character in the case of Pravish Chanam while assuring that the organization will provide every possible support in all the movements carried out by the JAC and the people.
Chanam Manglembi, mother of late Pravish Chanam, lamented that there are so many signs of foul play behind the death of her son.
She asserted that she don't want to compromise on her son's death with money or ex-gratia, but only want justice so as to ensure that her son is the last one from the North East States to be killed in the metro cities of India.
She then sought help from all the people, CSOs and student organizations to get justice for her son while asking all the intellectuals to get actively involved in the movement for the cause rather than just giving comments and opinions.
A rally was also organized as a part of the death anniversary during which some members of the JAC and CSOs submitted a memorandum to the CM through the Secretariat staff.
The representatives were allowed to submit the memorandum after the rally was been prevented from proceeding further at Nagamapal, near Samumakhong.
Mention may be made that Pravish Chanam went missing on September 8 last year, after he went to attend a concert in Noida.
His dead body was allegedly found at Nithari Village, UP, the next morning.
A police station in Noida had claimed that his corpse was cremated as an unclaimed dead body, without even informing through media.
However, CCTV footage of a hospital in UP captured the videos of Pravish coming out of the hospital on the morning of September 9 .
