Discussion programme on contribute made by former late Chief Minister Alhaj Alimuddin held

As a part of month long observance of "Leader Hijam Irabot Observation Month", Socialist Student Union of Manipur (SSUM) organized a discussion programme on the contribution and role played by the former late Chief Minister Alhaj Alimuddin for Manipur after Manipur got Statehood at Lilong Haoreibi College Hall today.
Former Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly Dr Maniruddin Sheikh attended the programme as chief guest, Principal Lilong Haoreibi College Dr A Suranjit Singh as functional president while President in-charge SSUM Soraijam Yaima Meetei, Social Worker Islao Rahaman.
Archives Deputy Director Ym Abdul Kalam, President Anti-Social Prevention Organisation (ASPO) Ahamadi and Social Worker Nasir Ahamed Sheikh attended the programme as guest of honours.
Former PA to Chief Minister Alhaj Alimuddin, Md Nijamuddin said late Chief Minister Alimuddin have played very important role to bring development in Manipur and he is one of the best Chief Minister of Manipur while adding that it is important to let know our younger generations the role played by CM Alimuddin, his identity, leadership quality and philosophy on a personal level.
One the glaring example of his leadership is that the declaration of August 13 as 'Patriotic Day' to pay respect to our martyrs who had sacrificed for their motherland while adding it is him who invited the then President of India VV Giri to visit Manipur to pay respect to our forefathers at Khongjom on April 23, Nijamuddin added.
He continued that during his time, Jawaharlal Nehru University PG centre was established on November 19, 1972 at Canchipur to enhance the level of education in Manipur and added that now that JNU PG center growth into become Manipur University which imparted higher education in the region.
During the time of CM Alimuddin, after the then Government of India gave permission to open a Medical institution in the North East, he fought to bring that medical institution in Manipur and established Regional Medical College (RMC) which is now known as Regional institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Nijamuddin informed.
Nijamuddin said that even though Alimuddin was born in a Muslim family at Lilong, he was a tall leader and stand for people irrespective of religion, caste and creed.
Later, after the discussion was over, a committee was formed and many resolutions were also taken.
