Victory of India over Pak in Kargil War celebrated in State

As in other parts of the country, Kargil Vijay Diwas, the victory of India over Pakistan in Kargil war was celebrated along with paying befitting tributes to the fallen Indian soldiers during a function held at the Banquet Hall of 1st Manipur Rifles here with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh as chief guest today.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi stated that among a number of Indian Army personnel who sacrificed their lives while trying to push back the intruding Pakistani Army during the Kargil war, there were 7 Manipuris.
'We must remember those who laid down their lives for the sake of motherland', Ibobi exhorted.

Referring to the frequent incidents of China intrusion into Indian territory through Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Ibobi reiterated that the independence of the country will never be compromised in any manner.
He announced the government is planning to make presentations to the bereaved families of the Kargil war martyrs of Manipur in the next observance.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who presided over the commemorative function, appealed to the people of Manipur to work for the development of the State by keeping in memory of the sacrifices made by the 7 martyred soldiers of Manipur during the Kargil war.
Recalling that the Pakistani Army were forced to retreat from the Line of Control after suffering defeat in the hands of Indian Army in the Operation Vijay on July 26, 1999, Gaikhangam observed that Pakistan was completely alienated from the rest of the world after the Kargil War.
During the commemoration, on behalf of the Rajya Sainik Board, the chief guest also distributed financial assistance to the family members of the Army personnel who attained martyrdom in Kargil war.
Organised by the State Government, the commemorative function was also attended by Education Minister M Okendra, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, MLAs, Chief Secretary and DGP among others.
Students and teachers of Shri Shri Bal Mukundev Government Music College also presented patriotic songs during the function.
