Police on alert at Sangaithel area after death of villager in brawl

Some parts of Sangaithel area in Manipur's Imphal West district has been kept under strict vigil by police as tension prevailed in the area following death of a villager in a brawl.
Sources said on Monday the accused is still in large.
The incident happened on November 23 in a paddy field when two men from Lunga Koireng and Thuijang villages, both neighbours, engaged in a brawl in which one of them was killed.
The victim has been identified as L Chongliyein aged 46, belonging to Lunga Koireng village.
The accused, Renghar Rengmei, aged 40, who has been absconding since the incident, belongs to Thuijang village.
Reports from the two villages said the incident took place after the two neighbours clashed over a latrine constructed by encroaching within the land of the victim.
On Monday, a peace committee representing leaders from the two villages was formed after a joint meeting at the Lunga Koireng.
The meeting resolved to prevent any sort of trouble over the incident in the two tribal villages.
Patsoi police has taken up additional security measures in the area keeping it under strict vigil to thwart any unwanted incident.
