Star Volunteers' Corps fetes Ningols

Imphal, October 23 2014:
In connection with the ensuing Ningol Chakouba festival which falls on October 25, a gift exchange function under the banner 'Ningol Chak-koubana Lakpa' was organized by Star Volunteers' Corps (SVC), Heirangoithong Awang Maibam Leikai under the sponsorship of Nongsakham Film Industry at SVC Ground, Imphal West today.
Chandramani Khumancha, vice-president of United Committee of Manipur (UCM); Mutum Dinesh, president of SVC and Thokchom Ramani Leima, general secretary of All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj graced the occasion as chief guest, president and guest of honor respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Chandramani Khumancha said that Ningol Chakouba is one of the biggest festivals of Meitei community which symbolizes love, bond and blessing between Ningols and their families while asserting that the function was organized with an aim to strengthen the ties between the people of hills and valley as married women belonging to tribal community also took part in the festival.
Expressing concern over exchanging of expensive gifts between Ningols and their families as a love token which should be avoided, he prayed for a peaceful co-existence amongst the people of hills and valley with the coming of the festival.
Presenting gifts to Ningols of various ethnic communities, hosting a grand feat and presentation of cultural performances like Pung Cholon and Thang-Ta were the main highlights of the function.
