Imphal, February 15 2013:
The trend of wealth or money power becoming essential criteria for contesting election in Manipur needs to be corrected at the earliest possible or else there would be no hope for the people of the State, Th Chaoba, President, BJP of Manipur State Unit has exclaimed.
He was speaking on the occasion of a reception function organized in honour of Dr Khangembam Menjor who has joined BJP along with his 100 workers, at the party office located at Nityaipat Chuthek here today.
Menjor contested in the election to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on the ticket of Trinamool Congress ticket from Kumbi Assembly Constituency.
Chaoba alleged that under the rule of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh-led Congress Government in the State for three consecutive terms; the social and economic condition of the State has declined drastically and the people have no hope and faith on the Congress government anymore.
He asserted that the budget session of State Assembly which has been announced by government of Manipur for three days only would not be enough for discussion on any important matter.
Chaoba asked how could such short term budget session discuss development policy of the Congress Government and said the Opposition should boycott it.
He termed such session as a strategy to find ways to sanction money and get corrupted.
He further asserted that the policy of Chief Minister O Ibobi who has planned to privatize the Power Department clearly indicates that there is no good governance in Manipur.
The BJP leader disclosed that the party would be fielding its candidates for both the Inner and the Outer Manipur Parliamentary seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to oust the Congress from power.
Today's reception function was also attended by former Minister Prof Gangumei Kamei, other BJP leaders and workers.
