Imphal, June 27 2013:
In continued effort of various sections of the people to save Sana Konung (Royal palace) from being taken over by the State Government, a public meeting was held at Sana Konung Chongabond today.
The meeting was attended by many people including leaders of various women organizations from across the State.
Among others who addressed the meeting, woman activist Momon Leima stated that the step taken up by the State Government to take over Sana Konung is very unfortunate.
The government should understand that the Royal Palace is a sacred place where the King performs all the customary rites and rituals of the State along with the people.
So, the intention of the State Government to take over Sana Konung and shift the King in another place is indeed astonishing.

We need to come together and save the Royal Palace from taking over by the State Government for the future generations to come, she exhorted the gathering.
P Tomcha, Legal Advisor of Royal Palace, stated that Manipur was a small but independent kingdom in South East Asia since time immemorial.
Even after the mighty British conquered Manipur, the King of Manipur still lived in the Royal Palace without any disturbance from any quarters.
The merger agreement also allowed the King to perform all customary works.
As such, we need to safeguard the customary institute and it is our fundamental right.
He went on to say that is wrong on the part of the State Government to forcefully take over the Royal Palace on the pretext of preserving and protecting it as a historical monument.
The Royal Palace should not be turned into a business hub.
There is the urgent need to ponder and discuss over the issue minutely.
Kakomlunglu Kamei, President of Kabui Mothers' Association and M Naodalenkhomba, Advisor of MIKAL also attended the meeting.
