Imphal, July 26 2014 :
The state BJP Unit has apprised the Union Home Minister of the severe maltreatment meted out by state police to the students who were agitating against non-implementation of ILP system in Manipur and the adamant attitude of the state government on the undesirable police action.
This was disclosed by Th.Chaoba, President of BJP Manipur Pradesh during a press meet held at BJP office at Nityaypat Chuthek here today.
Terming the police action of kicking and beating students in uniform as violation of human rights, Chaoba said his party dispatched a letter to Union Home Minister to look into the matter in which the state government has been remaining silent on the high handed attitude of the police.
He also observed that snatching of cameras from a journalist and bursting of teargas cells inside school campuses are unfortunate.
As ILP is being enforced in Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, the demand for implementation of the system is worthy of consideration for Manipur state as well, BJP state President contended, while observing that the people's movement has arisen as the state government has failed to take up steps for implementation of the ILP system.
Chaoba also told media persons that his party has apprised the Union Government of the non-filling up of posts of Commissioners in State Information Commission, as well as non-appointment of members of State Human Rights Commission.
However, the state government appears to have taken some steps with pressures from the Centre, he added.
