Imphal, November 24 2015:
Suspected Assam Rifles (AR) personnel apprehended one Bus ticket seller without giving any reasons and later he was released after being brutally assaulted on Monday.
The victim has been identified as one Bijoy Keishing (40), son of Narbadur from Kasom Khunou under Kasom Khullen Sub-division in Ukhrul district but presently residing at Chingmeirong Kabui Khun.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, Bijoy said, "I was arrested by suspected Assam Rifles personnel near my Bus Ticket Counter located at Tangkhul Avenue (opposite to ISBT) at around 3.30 pm." He stated that while he was taking breakfast near the ticket counter, three suspected AR personnel came in army dress and asked him to meet their officer.
"When I reached their vehicle, they put me in the vehicle and started blind folding me and took me to an unknown location", he alleged.
Bijoy further alleged that the personnel assaulted him by stamping on him with their boots on his back.
"Later they took me to Koirengei Hillock and tried to kill me," he alleged.
On hearing and seeing some approaching vehicles, the personnel left him on the spot around 11.30 pm, he said.
He appealed the responsible groups to clarify why he was arrested and assaulted without proper reason and demanded that befitting punishment be given to the culprits involved in the crime.
"If the responsible group fails to clarify, he threatened to launch a democratic form of agitations with help of civil society organisations.
