Delhi, December 19 2012:
A group of Burmese activists in India are out in Delhi holding a sit in demonstration as President Thein Sein is arriving at Delhi today to participate in the summit.
Myanmar will be taking up the chairmanship of ASEAN in 2014 .
The Burmese activists feel that ASEAN member Nations should review its decision to offer the chair of ASEAN to Myanmar in 2014 .
Besides the country being still in a slow process of reforms, the resentment against the Myanmar Government led by President Thein Sein came in the aftermath of the recent incident of November in Saigang region where hundreds of protesters were brutally manhandled by the Police.
The protesters were demanding a stop to Letpadaung copper mine, a Chinese and Myanmar Military joint project.
Demonstrators in Delhi also called upon India and ASEAN countries to pressure President Thein Sein to declare a ceasefire with ethnic armed groups.
