Renowned lyricist BM Mekola no more

Renowned Lyricist and Music Director Soraisham Biramangol, popularly known 'BM Mekola', who gifted a number of memorable songs to the public, passed away yesterday at 11 pm at Shija Hospital.
He was 49 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
BM Mekola was admitted to Shija Hospital on November 5 following a heart attack.
His last rites were performed this morning at his home place at Kodompokpi Maning Leikai Mekola.
Born on January 1, 1963 as the third son of Soraisham Kulachandra Singh and Ibempishak Devi, BM Mekola started his career as a singer and musician of Shumang Leela.
Later he joined Sana Leibak Nachom Artistes' Association as its Music Director.
BM Mekola had penned more than 50 popular songs including 'Kari Thada Lak-Uge, Mera Thada Lak-Ura' of the Manipuri digital film 'Shakhangdaba' .
Apart from being known as lyricist and music director, BM Mekola was also a music teacher and founder member and Vice President of Zenith Academy.
Though a Manipuri Hindu by birth, he was baptised and converted into Christianity in 1993 .
Meanwhile, Beneficial Club Meitram has mourned over the death of Mekola who was its former Cultural Secretary and shared the sorrow of the bereaved family.
Mekola Youth Association also mourned over his death.
